The Glagolitic letters created by Constantine-Cyrillus
The Glagolitic script consists of 38 characters created by Constantine the Philosopher for the needs of the Byzantine mission in Moravia. It represents the written form of the standard literary language called today Old Slavonic. Important literary works have been written with the Glagolitic script, e.g. Proglas that is a prologue and defence of the translation of all the four Gospels, or the outstanding hagiographies Life of Constantine and Life of Methodius. All the important liturgical texts have been translated into the Old Slavonic. The Glagolitic script represents one of the most important merit of the Byzantine mission in Great Moravia.
