A detail of the mosaic in the Cathedral San Clemente

Detail of the fresco „Transfer of the relics of St. Clement“ relates to the period of the arrival of Constantine the Philosopher and Methodius in Rome (in 867) when the brothers brought the relics of the fourth Roman pope Clement, who had died as a martyr in Crimea, as a gift. Pope Hadrian II stands in the middle of the picture, on his right Constantine the Philosopher and on the left Methodius. The fresco is in Rome, in the lower Basilica of St. Clement, and dates back to the 11th century.
